1. Introduction

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern use of the website at unphurl.com and the @Unphurl_bot service on Telegram (collectively, the "Service"). They apply to every visitor and every user of the bot.

By adding the bot, sending a link, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Questions: hi@unphurl.com.

2. Definitions

  • Service: the website at unphurl.com and the @Unphurl_bot Telegram bot operated by Unphurl.
  • User (or "you"): any individual who adds the bot or otherwise accesses the Service.
  • Check: a full analysis of a URL across the signal dimensions the Service runs, consuming one monthly check from the User's allowance.
  • Plan: the subscription tier the User is on. Free (10 checks/month, no payment required), Starter, Active, or Power. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually through Stripe.
  • Signals: structured data points returned by the Service about a URL (for example: domain age, SSL validity, threat database matches). Signals are not verdicts.

3. Service description

Unphurl provides URL intelligence through @Unphurl_bot on Telegram. For each link submitted, the Service runs an analysis pipeline across multiple dimensions and returns structured Signals together with a risk score. The Service also cross-references links against live threat databases including ScamSniffer, MetaMask, OpenPhish, and URLhaus.

The Service returns Signals, not verdicts. Signals describe observable properties of a URL. Interpreting those Signals and deciding what to do with a link is the User's responsibility.

4. Account terms

No registration or email address is required to use the Service. Adding the bot to Telegram grants automatic access to the Free plan. Your Telegram user ID is used to identify your account.

One account per User. Creating multiple Telegram accounts to circumvent check limits or abuse controls is a violation of these Terms.

The User must be at least 18 years of age, must not be located in a jurisdiction subject to Canadian sanctions, and must not be on any applicable sanctions list.

5. Acceptable use

The User agrees not to:

  • Submit URLs the User does not have the right to analyse.
  • Use the Service for any illegal or tortious (legally wrongful) activity.
  • Attempt to circumvent check limits, free-tier protections, or abuse detection.
  • Use automated tooling to submit URLs in bulk without prior written agreement.
  • Scrape the website or Service to rebuild an equivalent service.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service or the data it returns.

6. Plans and payment

The Free plan provides 10 checks per calendar month at no charge. Checks reset on the first of each month. Unused checks do not roll over.

Paid plans (Starter, Active, Power) are available on monthly or annual billing cycles through Stripe. Monthly plans renew each month. Annual plans are billed once per year. Check allowances reset at the start of each billing period.

Subscriptions can be managed or cancelled at any time via the Manage Subscription button in the /account command. Cancelling a paid plan does not issue a refund for the current billing period. The plan remains active until the period ends, then reverts to Free.

Prices are posted on the pricing page and may change. Material price changes will be communicated with at least 30 days notice via a prominent notice on the website.

7. Intellectual property

The User retains all rights to URLs the User submits to the Service.

Unphurl retains all rights, title, and interest in the Service, including the analysis pipeline, scoring logic, software, documentation, and brand.

Subject to these Terms, Unphurl grants the User a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use the Signals returned for the User's URLs for any lawful purpose.

8. Data rights and derivative intelligence

The rights granted in this section are the legal foundation for Unphurl's caching model and any future Unphurl data products. They are material to the Service and cannot be waived except by written agreement.

When a User submits a URL to the Service, the User grants Unphurl a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free licence to:

(a) process the URL through the analysis pipeline to generate Signals and scores;

(b) cache the URL, its resolved domain, and the resulting Signals indefinitely to improve Service performance for all users;

(c) aggregate, anonymise, and use URLs, their derived Signals, and related metadata to build, improve, and commercialise URL intelligence products, including without limitation threat intelligence feeds, monitoring services, analytical datasets, and derivative products offered to Unphurl customers or third parties.

Unphurl will not disclose which specific User submitted any specific URL. Unphurl may publish aggregated statistics, threat intelligence feeds derived from the pipeline, and standalone URL reputation datasets. These rights survive termination of the User's account. Cached Signals and derived intelligence may persist and continue to benefit the Service after the User stops using it.

9. Privacy

The Privacy Policy describes what the Service collects, how it is used, and how long it is retained. Unphurl does not share personally-identifying information with third parties except as required by law or as needed to operate the Service (for example, Stripe for payment processing).

10. Service availability

Unphurl uses commercially reasonable efforts to keep the Service available. No formal uptime SLA is offered. Scheduled maintenance will be announced in advance where practical. Unphurl is not liable for downtime, latency, or loss of availability, except where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law.

11. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, except those warranties that cannot be disclaimed under Canadian consumer protection law.

Signals are signals, not verdicts. Unphurl does not warrant that Signals or scores are accurate, complete, current, or fit for any particular purpose. The User is solely responsible for decisions made based on Signals, including any decision to click or not click a link.

Unphurl does not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from harmful components.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Unphurl's aggregate liability for any and all claims arising out of or related to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the fees paid by the User to Unphurl in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) CAD $100.

Unphurl is not liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or business interruption, even if advised of the possibility.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, for gross negligence, or for any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under Canadian law or any other applicable mandatory law.

13. Indemnification

The User will defend, indemnify, and hold Unphurl (and its officers, directors, employees, and contractors) harmless from and against any third-party claim, loss, damage, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to (a) the User's misuse of the Service, (b) the User's violation of these Terms, or (c) the User's violation of any third-party right, including any right of privacy or intellectual property right.

14. Termination

Either party may terminate the relationship at any time. Users may request account deletion by emailing hi@unphurl.com.

Unphurl may suspend or terminate access for violation of the Acceptable Use section or where abuse detection indicates significant misuse.

On termination, any remaining paid subscription period is not refunded. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Data Rights and Derivative Intelligence, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law) survive termination.

15. Changes to these Terms

Unphurl may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced at least 30 days before they take effect via a prominent notice on unphurl.com. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of laws principles. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario for any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.

17. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between the User and Unphurl regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
